Privacy Policy for Tonarly

Last updated: September 1, 2026

Introduction

Welcome to Tonarly, developed by Mario Saputra. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and disclose information about you when you use our iOS application and related services.

We do not sell your personal information, we do not serve third-party ads in our apps, and we do not use your information for cross-app advertising.

Audio never leaves your iPhone. Tonarly analyzes microphone input entirely on your device. The app does not record audio files, does not upload audio to a server, and does not share your singing or playing with anyone.

Information We Collect

User-Provided Information

We do not directly collect or store personal information on our servers. However, when you use certain features of the app:

  • Microphone audio: If you allow microphone access, Tonarly listens so it can name the note, show cents, draw the pitch trace, and (on Pro) detect chords. That audio is processed in memory on your device and is discarded as analysis completes. It is never saved as a recording and never uploaded.
  • App preferences: Settings such as A4 reference pitch, notation, instrument range, theme, daily free-tier counters, onboarding status, and Pro status are stored on your device.
  • Notifications: If you allow notifications, Tonarly may send optional push messages and may schedule a local reminder before a free trial converts to a paid subscription. You can turn notifications off in iOS Settings.
  • Device information: Basic device and app information (such as app version, iOS version, locale, and identifiers used for purchases or messaging) may be processed for app functionality, as described below.

Use of Third-Party Services

Tonarly shares certain data with third-party service providers to enable core functionality of the app. Before using this app, you must understand and consent to the following third-party data sharing practices:

In-App Purchase Processing

RevenueCat: In-app purchases and subscription management are processed through RevenueCat, a third-party service.

  • Data Shared: Purchase history, subscription status, paywall interaction events, and identifiers used to restore your purchase
  • Purpose: To manage subscriptions, process payments, and unlock Tonarly Pro
  • Third-Party Privacy Policy: RevenueCat Privacy Policy: https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy

Apple (Refund Processing)

Data Shared with Apple: We may share data regarding your usage and consumption of purchased content with Apple.

  • Data Shared: Details about how you have accessed and interacted with purchased content
  • Purpose: To help Apple make informed decisions regarding refund requests you initiate
  • Legal Basis: This sharing is done in compliance with Apple's policies and only as necessary to process your requests

iCloud (Apple)

iCloud Key-Value Store: If you are signed in to iCloud, the app may sync a stable purchase identifier (shown in Settings as your Support ID) so Tonarly Pro can be restored after a reinstall or on another device.

  • Data Shared: A purchase-related identifier stored in your iCloud account and associated with your Apple ID
  • Purpose: To restore purchases and keep the same Support ID across devices
  • Data Control: Your iCloud data is governed by Apple's iCloud and privacy practices. You can manage iCloud access in iOS Settings.

Firebase (Google)

Firebase Services: We use Google Firebase for remote feature configuration and optional push notifications.

  • Data Shared: Device identifiers (FCM tokens, APNs tokens, Firebase Installation ID) and basic device information
  • Services Used:
    • Firebase Remote Config: To retrieve app configuration such as free-tier daily limits, paywall variants, and required-update notices
    • Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM): To send push notifications if you opt in (including via APNs on iOS)
  • Purpose: To operate the app, adjust feature limits without an App Store update, and send optional notifications
  • Third-Party Privacy Policy: Google Firebase Privacy Policy: https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy
  • Data Control: Firebase is operated by Google. Data collected through Firebase is subject to Google's data handling practices

Your Consent and Data Sharing

Explicit Consent Requirement: By using Tonarly, you explicitly consent to the sharing of your data (including purchase and device identifiers) with the third-party services listed above. This consent is required because:

  • Payment processing requires third-party services to manage subscriptions
  • You have the right to know where your data is being sent and how it will be used

If you do not consent to this third-party data sharing, you should not use this app.

We do not sell your personal data. We only share data with third-party providers where it is necessary to operate the app and its features, and we select providers that are contractually required to protect your information in line with applicable laws.

Microphone audio is not included in that third-party sharing. It stays on your device.

Data Retention

Our Data Retention: We do not retain audio, prompts, or personal account data on our servers.

On-device preferences and daily counters remain until you delete the app or clear them through iOS settings. iCloud Key-Value values remain while your Apple Account keeps them, or until you delete them.

Purchase and subscription records are retained by our payment processing providers (RevenueCat and Apple) for as long as necessary to provide your purchases and comply with legal obligations.

Disclaimer on Tonarly

Tonarly is a practice tool. Note names, cents, frequencies, and chord labels are estimates produced on-device and may be inaccurate in noisy rooms, with mixed sources, or at extreme pitches. Do not rely on the app as a substitute for a professionally calibrated tuner or formal ear-training instruction.

Your Rights and Choices

Right to Not Use the App: If you do not consent to the third-party data sharing described in this Privacy Policy, your only option is to not use the app.

You can use Tonarly without enabling notifications. You can deny microphone access, though note detection will not work without it. You can manage, restore, or cancel App Store subscriptions in your Apple Account settings.

Contact Us: If you have questions about our data practices, please contact us at [email protected].

Security

We take reasonable measures to protect the information we collect.

Limitation of Services

We reserve the right to limit the number of identifications or monitoring time for free users and may change or terminate our services at any time.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. You will be notified of any changes through the app or on our website.
